Compeer Volunteer Opportunities

One-to-One Friendship

One-to-one friendship volunteer opportunities are open for our youth (6-17), adult (18+), and senior (62) programs. Volunteers and participants are matched based on shared interests and lived experience. Volunteers and participants agree to meet weekly for an hour, or every other week for two hours. The relationship is expected to last at least one year. The choice of activities varies and depends upon mutual agreement. Examples of activities include: going for a walk, having a picnic, playing cards, gardening, or going to a movie together. Compeer also sponsors socials for matches to attend.

Phone Friends

For those who are not able to commit to a one-to-one friendship, Phone Friends is a good alternative. Phone Friends volunteers make weekly phone calls to individuals who are waiting to be matched in a one-to-one Compeer friendship or prefer telephone communication. This role is only available to our adult and senior programs. Click the button below to learn more.

Community Supported Friendship Project

The CSF project was created in response to the unique challenge of prolonged physical isolation during the pandemic. We deliver monthly “friendship bags” to our adult and senior participants’ doorsteps. The bags are filled with handcrafted items and a newsletter featuring stories of connection. The project has been so well received by our participants and the local community that it continues even as the pandemic shifts. CSF would not be possible without the effort of many volunteers, including gift contributors and delivery drivers. To learn how you can help, click the button below.
