Internships

MHA offers several internships throughout the year. Click the link below to see what internship opportunities we are currently hosting.

Compeer

MHA’s Compeer program matches volunteers with adults in mental health recovery programs and isolated seniors (62+) at risk of worsening mental health concerns. Volunteers provide one-to-one supportive friendship and mentoring to offset the loneliness and social isolation that often accompanies mental illness and/or aging. Compeer is guided by a simple premise validated by research—that the support of friends is healing. Individuals matched with a Compeer volunteer often experience fewer hospitalizations, have increased self-esteem, and are more likely to adhere to their medication and treatment programs. The Compeer Model, based on recovery principles of autonomy, relatedness, and competency, is adaptable to meet the needs of local communities and different demographics, and is used by 53 affiliates in the United States, Australia, and Canada.

SOAR

SOAR is a national program developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The program is designed to increase access to the disability income benefit programs administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for eligible adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance use disorder.  MHA began offering the SOAR program to individuals in Cleveland County in 2014 as a form of individual advocacy and support for individuals facing housing instability along with a serious mental illness.

Healing With Nature

The Healing with Nature group is a collaboration of individuals in Cleveland County focused on community connectedness, health, and wellness from the personal to the planetary.

Operation Santa Claus

Each year MHA proudly sponsors Operation Santa Claus for adult residents of Cleveland County living with a severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual and developmental disability.

Emergency Medication Request

Our emergency medication fund helps cover the cost of needed mental health medications for residents of Cleveland County.  The form, available through the link below, should be completed by a mental health provider, community support personnel, your nurse or a doctor's office.  Limit is $50 per year for each consumer*.  Once request is confirmed a check will be dropped off at the specified pharmacy or mailed depending on pharmacy location.  Prescriptions must be called in or dropped off to pharmacy before a check can be delivered.

Please note: We do not provide funding for benzodiazepines.

*Special circumstances where need exceeds $50 will be considered on an individual basis.
